The House that Spawned a Million Mini-Malls
This is Dickie House, by Rob Krier (1976)
When Rob designed this house,
it was all about Golden Sections and sophisticated references
it was all about Golden Sections and sophisticated references
Rob is of course the older brother of Leon Krier
both super influential post-modern neo-traditionalists
little did they know that this would end up being
the blueprint for every mini-mall and rite-aid store
in Whateverville
and the signature porch would be home to every passing homeless.
Intriguingly the perfect cube house has a room for a household spirit
which is maybe an entity from another time?
that lives amongst the lines of the suddenly super interesting line drawings

Buildings and a piece of meat
Interesting article on the current situation of architecture
and how it relates to a piece of meat,
by always great Jan Aman

Great Kaleidoscope

Just contributed a text on MOMA's 1972 New Domestic Landscape
and Gaetano Pesce contribution in particular
to one of my favorite magazines, Kaleidoscope.
Check out the great issue for an interview of
Markus Miessen by Hans Urlich Obrist,
great stuff by Richard Hawkins,
a lovely text by our very own Sylvia Kouvali of Rodeo,
and much much more.

St Saviour and the Gates of Hell
one of the days in Sifnos, we decided to check out some of the hiking paths
the one that lead to St Saviour sounded the most exotic
the church was cute, in an abandoned way
a tree mysteriously bent towards the ground
weird keys and instruments lay at his feet,
as the earth cracked
as the earth cracked
then we skipped to the actual crack,
a old mining area right next to the water
it looked more like a cave
got darker as you went further in
and somehow upsidown, maybe too scary to venture too deep
but you know how sometimes in movies
you see a little monster and you think its cute,
and then the mountain next to it starts moving
and you realize its the mother?
just a few meters away, was the mother of all excavations, several stories deep
a huge drop, and you would find yourself dead at the gates of hell

Folk Fantasia
while in Sifnos, we stayed in a fantastic folk farmhouse
full of suggestive accumulations

some locals
fought dances

and perhaps random couplings
sober rooms with a slightly 70's ascetic minimalism

new books made friends

fought dances
in abstraction

super scary bottled threats
that we took outside to examine carefully

I am entirely convinced that the future is Papier-mâché
Johnson Wax for no reason
I never thought I would blog a Frank Lloyd Wright building, but this has been sitting at the image folder for ever, so maybe by posting it I'll find out why it was there. or maybe not.
maybe it's because it looks kind of interesting under construction
its also very cool as finished
or even under analytical demolition
the hall falls under the "I always love a lotus flower ceiling" building
